After the main story there are 3 codas. That in itself is an accomplishment.
If the Universe is truly infinite, not just reallyreallyreally redshhirts, all of fiction is fact somewhere and somewhen. And, inevitably, Ensign Redshirt ended up as cannon fodder. Most of the book is a satire, a little on the superficial side and very snappy-dialogue-driven.

Maybe this is the life where your loved one dies. It’s a highly self-aware novel — a narrative about out-narrating a Narrative — and with so much to juggle, it sometimes falls short of the mark.
Redshirts is not a novel. For me the whole thing worked really well. Enough so that Redshlrts will definitely be seeking out John Scalzi’s other works. Retrieved 15 July Well it was interesting to see what happened to him after the fact it was a bit slow but interesting to see how the swap worked on the other end.
I liked how they gradually pieced things together.
They’re interesting, but so very different in tone from the rest of the book that the contrast is a little jarring. I think that now would be a good time to end this review.
Feb 04, Patrick rated it it was amazing. To sum it up, Redshirts is a sci-fi novel bordering on parody that will make you laugh out loud. They do what they can to avoid the captain and the other bridge crew, but they know gedshirts days aboard the Intrepid are numbered.
‘Redshirts’: A Love Letter To Sci-Fi Fans
scaliz Not in this book! What I want right now is to be the person who decides my own fate. But, of course, our main characters never beamed anywhere by themselves. If you are a seller for this product, would you like to suggest updates through seller support? Wil Wheaton I’m not making any friends with this, but I had a hard time with Wheaton’s narrating in this one.
It worked even despite the honestly, quite unnecessary three ‘codas’ stuck onto the ending if the book as though their only function was to pad the word count just a little bit. It was also short with the main story being about pages. But not from me.
Redshirts originally titled Redshirts: This book is extremely funny in parts, especially if you’re familiar with the original Star Trek and some of its characters and quirks, but it’s really kind of an odd book at the same time. Although the endings are not abrupt which can happen in any length book, I always feel like I just got into the world when they end.
