I have no idea what this says about me as a personI’d have to say this is the most human viewpoint of it all. But all my lifw were just tilting against the natural lassitude to which I wisely yielded in the end. There are also some spots where Etty observes that the oppressors are human too.

It is also touching to read her progressive description of all the things that were slowly forbidden to all Jews: Mischa is a talented pianist and Jaap eventually becomes a medical doctor. She is an avid reader, ever involved in philosophical discussions with her contemporaries.
